From my upbringing minutes from the unique ecology of the Indiana Dunes

to my family’s history as outdoorsmen, I have always held a deep love for our natural systems. As climate change continues to affect communities around the world, I understand the urgency for climate adaptation, especially in urban environments where systemic, historical inequities leave our neighbors vulnerable.

My passion for cities was born and nurtured in Chicago. As both a visitor and a resident I have found community, education, and purpose in this wonderful city. As I’ve traveled and experienced the myriad ways cities can exist, I understand how cities have failed their residents, but also am convinced that these places deserve to flourish.

I have been fortunate in my educational journey to have learned and practiced in renowned spaces like the College of Urban Planning, Policy, and Administration at the University of Illinois Chicago and the O’Neill School of Environmental and Public Affairs at Indiana University. The faculty at these institutions have helped me hone my technical skills, communicate my ideas effectively, and concentrate my interests. Those skills, ideas, and interests were further developed during my work experience at the planning department of St. John, IN, the Environmental Resilience Institute, and the American Planning Association.

My planning philosophy is rooted in the belief that planning is inherently political. When planners divorce themselves from the political ecosystem they exist in, they do themselves and their communities a disservice. I believe planners should work in solidarity and allyship with organizers and should have experience taking action on the ground. I have worked with the Sunrise Movement and Planners’ Network to deepen my professional practice and grow as a person.

I have also gained essential soft skills through eight years of work in the food service industry. My time as a barista, bartender, and server, both in entry-level and managerial roles, has shaped me into a compassionate and hardworking person who puts her all into everything she does.

On my days off you can find me lounging with my two cats, practicing yoga, crocheting, or reading science fiction.
